Active Release Technique

Enhance Mobility with Targeted ART® Solutions

Active Release Technique® (ART®) is a specialized, hands-on soft tissue therapy designed to treat issues caused by muscle overuse . The overuse of muscles is the culprit of a number of health issues. The repetitive use of a muscle group causes the build up of scar tissue, which limits the movement of tissues that need to move freely for the body to operate properly. As a result, muscles get smaller and weaker and nerves become trapped. Ultimately, this causes reduced motion, loss of strength and pain.

ART® was developed as a new solution to problems associated with muscle overuse. It is an effective method of breaking down scar tissue to increase motion and restore full function to affected areas.ART® practitioners do this by applying a firm tension on the affected area as they put the patient’s body through a range of specific motions unique to ART®. There are over 500 motions that can be used in treatment, allowing practitioners to choose the motions that best suit each patient’s individual needs. Practitioners select movements based upon ongoing examinations of the texture, tightness and movement of their patients’ muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves. Through this method, scar tissue is removed from affected areas, allowing muscles to work with a full range of motion, and allowing nerves to work without irritation.

How Active Release Technique Works

At Oakridge Chiropractic and Wellness Centre, Active Release Technique® (ART®) is an integral part of our multi-disciplinary approach to restoring pain-free movement and function. Our practitioners, Dr. Collin Watson, Dr. Ron Barlot, and Dr. Isaac Tada are trained in delivering this highly effective form of manual therapy.

Assessment:

The process begins with a thorough evaluation of your symptoms, movement patterns, and areas of discomfort. Our practitioners use their hands to examine the texture, tightness, and movement of muscles, tendons, and ligaments.

Treatment Process:

During an ART® session, the practitioners, Dr. Collin Watson, Dr. Ron Barlot and Dr. Isaac Tada apply firm, targeted pressure to the affected area while guiding the body through specific movements unique to ART®. With more than 500 treatment protocols available, each session is tailored to the patient's individual needs. Movements are selected based on ongoing assessments of the texture, tension, and mobility of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves.

Results and Frequency:

Most patients see significant improvement within 3 to 6 visits. This hands-on process helps break down scar tissue from affected areas and promote recovery.
